Overview

About this experience

The Elephant Sanctuary at Hartbeespoort houses rescued and relocated African elephants in a large managed reserve, with a handler-led programme built around education rather than performance. You walk alongside the herd, learn how they are cared for and hear each animal's history.

Afterwards the Hartbeespoort Aerial Cableway lifts you to the top of the Magaliesberg ridge for one of the best views in Gauteng — the dam, the Cradle and, on a clear day, the Johannesburg skyline in the distance.

Highlights

  • Handler-led elephant interaction and education programme
  • Learn about elephant anatomy, behaviour and conservation
  • Hartbeespoort Aerial Cableway to the ridge summit
  • Panoramic views over Hartbeespoort Dam and the Magaliesberg
  • Time at the Hartbeespoort craft stalls and dam-side restaurants
